1 Guthrie, 2 Guthrie, 3 A third is often used, viz., that Peter would have written more about the earthy Jesus and his relationship to him. But, as Guthrie comments, “this objection cannot be regarded as serious since the presence of such reminiscences in the case of 2 Peter is regarded by some as an objection against apostolic authorship, and there is no sure canon of criticism. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. We vacillate. But in the Spirit, our tongue becomes an agent of blessing. Notice the path of the righteous man and woman: "He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it." Understanding helps ministering to the hurting around us.

Mid-week Message/Devotion Febru Reading: 1 Peter Focus on the Ministry NOT the Suffering The first thing that came to mind, as I was reading 1 Peter was that Jesus could very well have coined that phrase “No good deed goes unpunished”. Disclaimer - 1 Peter are passages which are notoriously difficult to interpret and are reminiscent of Peter's statement about Paul's writings (2Pe note).

Ross writes that 1 Peter is "one of the shortest and simplest, and yet one of the richest summaries given in the NT of the meaning of the Cross of Jesus. So though Jesus suffered for doing good, He had the ultimate triumph.

The example of Jesus proves Peter's point in 1 Peter when we suffer for doing good, we will inherit a blessing. Jesus has gone into heaven, and it is better for us that He is there.

Spurgeon related this to how the high priest, ministering for Israel on the Day of. The application of Peter’s pointing to Christ, who bore witness through suffering and was vindicated by God, is: 2. We can bear witness through suffering and trust God to vindicate us.

Peter implies that we bear witness through suffering in two ways: through baptism and holy living (as seen in the example of Noah). We bear witness through. 1 Peter It is interesting that 1 Peter forms a chiastic structure (a writing style that uses a unique repetition pattern for clarification and emphasis) contrasting Noah's flood and baptism: A.

God (1 Pet ) B. made alive in the spirit (1 Pet ) C. brought safely through water (1 Pet ) C'. 1 Peter (NKJV) This is the Word of God. May the Spirit of Truth give us Wisdom and Insight to receive what has been conveyed through His Word by His Inspiration. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

Let's open our Bibles now and we have a little time to share in the Word of God and what a rich, rich time it will be for us tonight, 1 Peter chapter 3. We're looking at the triumph of Christ's suff.

1 Peter 3 – Submission and Suffering A. Submission in the home. () The heart of a godly wife. Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.

Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands: The godly wife will be. To inculcate this idea of patient endurance in the middle of suffering, Peter presents the moving example of Christ ().

The passion of Christ strikingly portrays the truth that the innocent do suffer. In these verses Peter clothes his description of Christ’s passion with many phrases borrowed from Isaiah What does 1 Peter chapter 2 mean.

How Christians live on this side of eternity does, in fact, matter. First Peter 1 established who we are as God's people, through faith in Christ. It described why believers are called by God to lead holy lives, different from those in the world around us.

God has set us aside for a different purpose. The Fellowship of Christ’s Suffering and Glory. Salutation, 1 Peter I. The Conflict of Hope and Suffering, 1 Peter 1. The Living Hope Born of Christ’s Resurrection, 1 Peter 2.

Trials and Sufferings, 1 Peter 3. The Triumph of Hope, 1 Peter II. A Royal Priesthood and a Holy Nation, 1 Peter The book was probably written from Rome. Peter gives us the title of the book as being the “the true grace of God” in The word “grace” appears 10 times in the book.

The book deals much with suffering, with the word “pathama” or suffering being found four times in the book, more than in any other New Testament book. Read 2 Peter !. It is highly likely that these events are all connected. The book of Enoch (which Jude makes reverence to, even though it was not a biblical book) discusses this account.

1 Enoch “In 2 Peter 2, the reference to the imprisonment of sinning angels is immediately followed by a reference to the Flood.” (Hiebert).
